Denise Welch believes her affair made her marriage stronger.
The 51-year-old actress cheated on husband Tim Healy with toyboy carpenter Steve Murray in 2003 and while she feels awful for the way she treated her spouse, she feels it has benefitted their relationship.
Writing in her autobiography 'Pulling Myself Together', which has been serialised in the Daily Mirror newspaper, mother-of-two Denise said: “It came to a head in 2004 and it was a horrible time for us as a family. I was really wobbly as a result. But life, and our marriage, went on.
“Our son Matthew has since said it was a defining point in his life. It was the moment he realised his parents weren’t gods but simply two people who had fallen in love, got together and had a baby.
“I think our marriage became stronger after that. What happened made us both realistic about what could happen.”
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress also revealed actor Tim had one-night stands with other women, but it isn’t something she would divorce him over.
She said: “I don’t want people to think that I’m condoning infidelity, but sexual infidelity is just not the end of the world for me. There are worse things that my partner can do than sleep with somebody he doesn’t have feelings for, outside the marriage.
“I also don’t want people to think Tim and I have an open marriage. But we don’t see a one-night stand as spelling the end of our relationship. A one-night blip can be just that: a blip.”
