Undelivered promise in 'Perrier’s Bounty'
Director: Ian Fitzgibbon
Cast: Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Jim Broadbent
Cert: 16
Another Irish gangster yarn that never quite seems to have been thought through or properly rounded off, though even with such weaknesses just about limps home as a half-decent watch.
That it has Murphy, playing a Dublin layabout with ambitions to be a hood, and the formidable Gleeson, as a gangland hard-man, does give the story a major plus, but the storyline is over-fussy and can’t be properly sustained.
There’s certainly a lot going on, too much perhaps: money owed, money not repaid, robbery with violence, revenge for an accidental killing, going on the run, hitmen in pursuit. You name it.
The film has its moments of tension and fun but somehow it doesn’t come together - a story of undelivered promise.
Star Rating: 3/5
