Corrie star admits driving charges in court

Bruce Jones has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and drink driving.

The former ‘Coronation Street’ actor – who portrayed foul-mouthed Les Battersby in the ITV1 soap – appeared in Mold Crown Court today where he changed his plea and admitted the charges after his trial jury were discharged.

The 57-year-old was on trial for dangerous driving and assault following an incident in a vehicle with his spouse Sandra Jones on August 28 2009 – where he allegedly tried to take both their lives.

The court had been told how Jones was travelling to Abersoch, Gwynedd, North West Wales with his wife, who was driving their Mercedes, when they began to row.

According to prosecutor Gordon Hennell, their argument quickly escalated and Jones - who had allegedly been drinking - threatened to take both their lives.

He allegedly took hold of the steering wheel and made the car swerve whilst telling Sandra he was “going to steer the car in front of a truck and kill them both."

After the pair got out of the vehicle Bruce grabbed his spouse’s arm – for which a common assault charge has been ordered to lie on file.

He will be sentenced next month.

Jones has also received an interim driving ban after the court was told he was two-and-a-half times over the drink-drive limit.

The actor – who has been married to his wife for 26 years - has been bailed to an unknown address and must remain indoors at night, unless he is appearing on the stage for charity.
