'Zonad' a daft delight
Directors: John/Kieran Carney
Cast: Simon Delaney, Donna Dent, Janice Byrne, Rory Keenan
Cert: 15
Oirish stereotypes abound gloriously in the Carney brothers’ wonderful comedy, and you couldn’t possibly be offended.
This is an expanded version of the Carneys short college film and it’s a daft, funny, off-centre delight all round.
Filmed in Avoca, the story involves the citizens of a small Irish town, much into aliens, who during a meteor shower find themselves playing host to a strange visitor dressed in a red jumpsuit.
He is found passed out in the home of a local family, who take him in since he claims to be from a distant planet come to Earth to see what we’re up to. But as his reputation and fame grows is this visitor not taking in the natives?
Delaney is quite brilliant as the conman from outer space and everybody else in the film looks like they enjoyed every second of its making.
