Peggy Mitchell and Pat Evans will feud over a new man.

The 'EastEnders' love rivals - portrayed by Pam St Clement and Barbara Windsor - will lash out at each other once again as they battle to win the attentions of a suave journalist who visits Albert Square in May.

A source said: "The sparks fly. Peggy and Pat both fancy their chances."

The object of their desires will be a charming middle-aged journalist named Harvey Freeman - who will be portrayed by veteran actor Martin Jarvis.

The 68-year-old star is delighted he's been cast in the BBC One soap and can't wait to work with the screen legends once more.

He said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be a potential thorn between two roses working with two actresses I greatly admire and have had the pleasure of working with before. I'm delighted to be reunited with Pam and Barbara and to have a part in 'EastEnders'."

Executive Producer Diederick Santer told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I'm delighted that the wonderful and charming Martin Jarvis will be joining us in Walford, and I can't wait to see his scenes with Barbara and Pam."

This will not be the first time Pat and Peggy have come to blows over a man.

Over the years they were both married to London charmer Frank Butcher - who was played by the late actor Mike Reid.
