'From Paris With Love' a great mindless thriller

Director: Pierre Morel

Cast: John Travolta, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Kasia Smutniak

It’s wonderful how Travolta keeps reinventing himself, here as a Bruce Willis-'Die Hard', swaggering, wise-cracking action man.

It’s not the most original film you’ll ever see but it was never intended to be, it is what it is: a fun movie packed with energy and funny lines … and with a stand-out performance from Travolta as old hand agent Charlie Wax.

Meyers plays James Reece, a US diplomatic functionary in Paris who is also a low-level special agent longing for a break to leg him up the pecking-order.

It comes when he joins Travolta to find a possible terrorist gang, and then discovers he’s a target of the gang, with only Travolta to save him.

Subtle it isn’t, but if you overlook the plot and enjoy everything else you’ll have a good evening’s entertainment.
