Leonardo DiCaprio is happy to be a "mummy’s boy".

The ‘Shutter Island’ star is often accompanied by his mother Irmelin on the red carpet, especially in Europe where she has relatives, and enjoys her being there because they are so close.

Speaking about the Berlin Film Festival, where his mother is with him, he said: “She just likes to come with me on occasions like this. And when I have the opportunity to take someone with me, I’ll do her the favour. Especially Berlin – she’s got relatives here and loves travelling through Europe. She loves taking part in my life.

"You can call me a mummy’s boy, but I think it’s cool to have her with me.”

Leonardo also revealed he is considering taking a career break.

The 35-year-old actor has been starring in films for the past 20 years and while he is still enjoying it, he admits the time may be right for a change in his life.

Talking about his long career, he revealed to Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper: “You actually become more passionate as you go on. You want to do more, defeat your own hero. It’s about obsession. Let’s put it this way, there’s a strong desire to keep going.

“On the other hand I’ve been doing this for a long time. Maybe I should try and focus on something different. No big break, nothing radical. Just a little time-out.”
