'The Wolfman' a stylist horror romp
Director: Joe Johnston
Cast: Anthony Hopkins, Hugo Weaving, Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt
A slick, action-filled re-make of a 1940s classic horror with a strong cast bringing a quality to the screen that elevates it well above the normal fangs-for-the-memory plot.
Lawrence Talbot (Del Toro) returns to his home in the small Victorian community of Blackmore where his brother has gone missing.
He is enlisted into the search for the truth behind the disappearance by brother’s great love, Gwen (Blunt), but there is something in Lawrence’s childhood that requires closure … something beastly and blood-thirsty.
While there are elements of humour sprinkled throughout the storyline it never wavers from the dark – and fast-paced – horrors of a classic tale re-made with style and verve.
