Burley 'mortified' by Andre tears on show
Kay Burley has said she was "mortified" after her questions made Peter Andre break down on TV.
The news presenter probed Peter’s thoughts as to how he’d feel if Alex Reid - the new husband of his ex-wife, Katie Price - wanted to adopt his children, prompting him to become visibly upset during the live segment.
Peter – who has two children with Katie, Junior, four and Princess Tiaamii, two - had been expecting to talk about his new album and tour but had agreed to answer questions about Katie’s marriage to Alex in Las Vegas the previous day.
Peter’s manager, Claire Powell reportedly rang Burley in a rage.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Claire felt it was a blatant hatchet job. She kept saying: 'How can you do that? Peter's a great dad.'"
Speaking on her blog later, Kay said she was "mortified" at upsetting Peter and offered him her "sincere" apologies.
She wrote: "When I went to check during an advert break that he was ok, he sobbed on my shoulder in the green room.
"As we chatted he said he was relieved he'd finally vented some of the pent-up tension he'd been feeling. I warned him not to ever cry in front of the children."
Television watchdog Ofcom is now deciding whether to launch an investigation following a number of complaints by viewers.
Sky News released a statement supporting the presenter, which said: "Kay later spoke with Peter off-camera and they parted amicably."
