Maguire: 'Brothers' not a war flick
Tobey Maguire’s latest film is “not a war movie”.
Despite playing the role of US marine captain Sam Cahill in Afghanistan in the Jim Sheridan-directed ‘Brothers’, the actor has insisted it is not solely about conflict in the Middle East country.
He said: “What’s interesting about the movie is that while Sam suffers during the war in Afghanistan, this is definitely not a war movie.
“It’s a story about a man and what he will do to get back to his family, and how he struggles to reconnect to that family."
The 34-year-old actor, who recently pulled out of making a fourth ‘Spiderman’ film, also claimed the role was quite different to himself.
He told The Metro: “My character, Sam, is a lot more at home with his military family. He’s more at home at war than he is with his kids or in his living room or with his wife.
“As much as I love my work, I prefer being home with family. I now have a home office and it’s nice because I have close proximity to them. I’m like: 'OK, I’m going to eat breakfast with my children and then I’m going to get on the ground and play blocks.' “
