Triple chance for Lily at the Brits

Lily Allen expressed delight as she received three nominations for this year’s Brit awards.

The pop singer, who has never managed to take home one of the accolades, is up against Lady GaGa, Pixie Lott and Florence And The Machine to be a big winner.

She said: “It’s a huge honour for me to have my music recognised in this way by the Brits.”

The event, to be screened live by ITV1 when it takes place next month, will be hosted by comic Peter Kay.

Speaking at the awards launch at London’s O2 yesterday, JLS star Jonathan “JB” Gill, said: “It’s the 30th anniversary and we’re performing at the event.

“It would be absolutely incredible to win a Brit. I used to live down the road from the Brit School, and I went past every day and wanted to go there.”

The band are up for three awards, as are Allen, Lady GaGa, Lott and Florence And The Machine.

Allen, Lott and Florence Welch go head to head in the best British female category, with Allen and Welch up for best British album. Welch is also up for best breakthrough against Lott.

Allen – who despite four nominations in 2007 has remained empty-handed – is also up for best British single with 'The Fear'.

US star Lady GaGa, who had the biggest-selling single of 2009 with 'Poker Face', is nominated as best international female, international breakthrough act and best international album for her debut 'The Fame'.

However one of the UK’s biggest-selling successes of the year, Susan Boyle, failed to make any shortlists.

Awards will be handed out on February 16 at Earl’s Court in west London at a star-studded show featuring performances by Florence And The Machine – duetting with Dizzee Rascal – plus Lady GaGa, JLS and Kasabian.
