Lloyd Webber declares himself 'fighting fit'

Andrew Lloyd Webber said he has been successfully treated for prostate cancer.

The composer of 'The Phantom of the Opera', 'Evita' and 'Jesus Christ Superstar' said he is now “fighting fit” after the operation to remove his prostate gland and treatment for an E coli infection.

Lloyd Webber first revealed his thoughts in a health diary published in the Mail on Sunday and later posted on the composer’s website.

The 61-year-old composer said: “I will need regular follow-up checks over the years, but we have arrived – at the end of a long journey – at the best possible outcome.”

Lloyd Webber is currently preparing for the London premiere in March of 'Love Never Dies', his sequel to 'The Phantom of the Opera'.
