Little to recommend 'Did You Hear About the Morgans?'
Director: Marc Lawrence
Cast: Hugh Grant, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mary Steenburgen
Cert: PG
A rom-com, with a sub-plot involving murder, a possible hit-man and arms dealers, that somehow doesn’t come together largely because Grant remains one of the cinema’s blandest of actors.
Neither does it help an already indifferent storyline that the chief characters bring us little chemistry.
Grant and Parker, the Morgans, are New York’s very IN couple, only they have recently separated, something which he is trying to put right.
On a make-it-up dinner date they witness a murder and as the chief witnesses they are taken out of the waters they know and hidden in a rural location … needless to say, since it’s a film full of predictability, they grow to love it and the folk in it.
It might, with a stronger, character-driven plot, have been a much better film with something worthwhile to say about fish-out-of-water, but there is nothing about the Morgans to rouse our interest, it doesn’t matter what anybody has to tell us about them.
