Great performances in 'Treeless Mountain'

A film from South Korea in which not much actually happens but which nonetheless offers several outstanding performances, particularly from the two little girls, Hee-yeon and Song-hee, who play sisters deposited with their slightly dotty aunt (Mi-hyang) while their mother (See-ah) searches for their estranged father.

The basic plot concerns the way children cope with personal trauma and the hope they retain, against the odds, that things will work out for the best.

It’s an emotional film that is much better than some critics think.
