Corrie star reveals reasons for leaving soap
Former ‘Coronation Street’ star Sean Wilson, who played Martin Platt, has revealed he left the show because there were plans to turn him into a paedophile.
The 44-year-old, who is currently starring at Buttons in a pantomime version of ‘Cinderella’, also claimed that those behind the show didn’t give him enough respect.
He said: “The reason I left was because they wanted my character to have an affair with a 14-year-old schoolgirl.
“I said I didn’t like the idea of that, they said I was doing it, so I said, ‘OK – I’ll get my coat.’
“I didn’t think they gave me as much respect as my 21 years on the show deserved. They would have to be very persuasive if they wanted me back.”
Discussing his former co-star Maggie Jones, who played battleaxe Blanche Hunt, Sean said: “She was a wholesome, happy, rounded person. Not at all like Blanche.”
Maggie, died on December 2nd at the age of 75 in hospital after undergoing major surgery in October.
Sean added: “Maggie would have been the last person to realise how popular she was.”
