'Humpday' never fulfils early promise

Director: Lynn Shelton

Cast: Joshua Leonard, Mark Duplass, Alycia Delmore

'Humpday' is a film about two guys deciding to make a film of themselves for a local porn fest – that manages not to be in any way a gay film … some feat from director Shelton.

The problem is that for all its cutting-edge intent what begins as a film with an interesting idea that is, admittedly, carried out with care and honesty, fails to live up to expectations … the promising start fades into a disappointing finish.

Leonard and Duplass, Andrew and Ben, are two college pals who meet up after some years and find themselves at a party where they decide to make a film of them having sex.

When they come too the next morning they can’t extract themselves from their decision.

Not, then, in spite of appearances, a gay film – more of a male bonding film – its good intentions come to little.
