Lloyd Webber rushed to hospital

Andrew Lloyd Webber was rushed to hospital last night after developing a “chronic” infection.

The composer - who masterminded talent shows including 'Any Dream Will Do', 'I'd Do Anything', and 'How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? – has developed an infection following surgery to remove his prostate three weeks ago, it has been confirmed.

The 61-year-old star was taken to a London hospital where he will stay for two to three days while being treated.

A statement on his website said: “Andrew has been re-admitted to hospital following his operation for prostate cancer.

“He has been advised that while the operation was entirely successful, he has developed a post-operative ‘chronic infection’ which needs immediate treatment.”

Dr Jonathan Waxman, a leading prostate cancer expert, said: “Recovery in up to 5% of operations is complicated by this kind of infection.”

Friends last night said Andrew was “fed up” with the situation and just wanted to get home.

The composer – who owns seven West End theatres and is worth an estimated £800m (€894m) – had planned to be back at work in January in order to start rehearsals for ‘Love Never Dies’.
