'2012' action-packed but predictable

Director: Roland Emmerich

Cast: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Woody Harrelson, John Cusack, Amanda Peet

Another date for the diary, another day for the world to end.

The ancient Mayans apparently jotted in 2012 as the year of doom so the master of disaster

Emmerich – he of The Day After Tomorrow – gives us a couple of years to prepare.

He spent more than $200m (€223.6m) on getting the look and feel right but, really, it’s just

another of the it’s-all-gonna-end blockbusters we have become used to.

We get the usual crop of nutty scientists, scheming politicos, chancers and everything else

facing Earth’s final days with Cusack, as a writer, discovering what we all know will happen

if the day comes in reality … the politicians will have worked out how to save themselves and

their cronies.

It’s big, spectacular, action-packed and fairly much as predicted from this director.
