Harris unveiled as 'X Factor' stage invader
Calvin Harris invaded the stage during John and Edward’s ‘X Factor’ performance last night.
The ‘Acceptable In The 80s’ hitmaker – who was due to appear on spin-off show ‘The Xtra Factor’ – was immediately ejected from the studios after the disturbance, which saw him interrupt the duo’s rendition of Queen classic ‘Under Pressure’ while clutching a pineapple on his head.
The group – 18-year-old Irish twins John and Edward Grimes, who have been nicknamed Jedward – were later praised by their mentor Louis Walsh for staying professional throughout the incident, while their performance also won over their harshest critic, Simon Cowell.
Simon - who caused controversy when he opted to save them over Lucie Jones last week - said: “I can’t judge you in the real world. I have to judge you in Jedward land and if I'm there, that has to be your best performance. There's no point getting angry, if people like you, they like you.”
Calvin later apologised for his behaviour, posting on his Twitter page: “At the end of the day, I had a pineapple on my head. Sorry if I caused anyone embarrassment. P.s I love Jedward. (sic)”
Meanwhile, the judges were united in agreement that Danyl Johnson – who has previously faced criticism for being over-confident – had given the best performance of the night with his show-closing rendition of ‘We Are The Champions’.
Louis told him: “Tonight, you proved you have the talent to back up your arrogance. That was the most convincing performance of the night.”
Virtually all the contestants received positive feedback, though Jamie Archer’s hair was criticised and Lloyd Daniels was warned he was out of his depth after singing ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’.
