Claudia Winkleman will join Tess Daly in presenting tonight’s episode of Strictly Come Dancing after its usual host Bruce Forsyth came down with flu.

Forsyth, who is recovering at his home in Virginia Water, Surrey, has never missed an episode of the popular ballroom dancing contest which is now in its seventh series.

Winkleman already presents 'It Takes Two', Strictly’s spin-off show, while Daly is 81-year-old Forsyth’s regular co-presenter.

A BBC spokesman said: “Tess Daly will be filling Bruce’s shoes on 'Strictly Come Dancing' and Claudia Winkleman will be doing Tess’s job backstage.”

Bosses had considered bringing in an outsider to help host the primetime show but felt Forsyth was irreplaceable, deciding instead to keep the programme in the hands of the show's regular presenting team.

The veteran television presenter is expected to be watching the show from home.

The BBC said viewers could expect a “surprise” but refused to give anything away.
