Partridge: My character is not selfish

John Partridge has hit out at claims that his 'EastEnders' character is “selfish”.

The 38-year-old actor, who plays Jane Beale’s gay brother Christian Clark, said his character’s belief in doing things for his personal happiness was determination rather than selfishness.

He told website Digital Spy: “He lives his life thinking if that's what you want you've got to go for it and, in some ways, screw the consequences.

“People make that out to be selfish but if you need something for your own happiness you have to grab the opportunity.”

But John admits that Christian needs a firm hand and said he would love “fabulous” Lynda Baron to return to the show as Christian and Jane’s mum Linda.

He said: “She couldn't be more perfect - an old showgirl hoofer! When she was here it was hilarious. Me, Laurie and Lynda singing showtunes and highkicking - it was all eyes, t**s and teeth down this corridor.

“I'd love her to come back and give Christian a good talking to - it's when he'll need his mum. She's an absolute legend."
