Kidman: I was warned against marrying Cruise
Nicole Kidman was told marrying Tom Cruise would "ruin" her career.
The Hollywood actress - who was married to Cruise for 10 years from 1990 after meeting on the set on 'Days of Thunder' - believes her acting success was boosted by her romance with the actor, despite her advisors insisting she was making the wrong decision in tying the knot.
She explained: "I became famous very young. I became very famous because I was the wife of somebody.
"I did a lot of good, worthwhile work in Australia between the ages of 14 and 19 and then I married someone famous. And really, despite the huge profile that brought to me, I was still finding my feet.
"My agents at the time were like: 'Do not get married! It will ruin your career!' And I was like: 'But I'm in love'!"
Despite Kidman's new-found fame when she was just 23, she insists she only married Cruise because they were hopelessly in love.
Following their divorce, Kidman went on to marry singer Keith Urban, with whom she has a 15-month-old daughter, Sunday Rose, while Cruise - who has two adopted children with Nicole - has three-year-old Suri with wife Katie Holmes.
