Third time unlucky for X Factor reject Rachel

It was third time unlucky for X Factor hopeful Rachel Adedeji tonight.

While the public voted ā€œnightmareā€ twins John and Edward through to the next round, Adedeji received the lowest votes and faced her third sing-off.

Head judge Simon Cowell said she sang much better than Lloyd Daniels, who was suffering from a sore throat.

But Cowell said he could not ignore her lack of popularity with the public and used his vote to create a tie, which meant the decision rested solely on viewers’ votes.

Tears rolled down Adedeji’s cheeks when she was told she was leaving the show.

ā€œThank you to everyone who has supported me,ā€ she said.

ā€œIt’s been amazing and I got to meet so many lovely people and work with great judges.ā€

She told her mentor Dannii Minogue: ā€œYou’re amazing.ā€

Minogue, who had wiped away Adedeji's tears after joining her on stage, said: ``Everyone who came on to the show who was mentoring the contestants loved Rachel.

ā€œI don’t know where it went wrong.ā€

The decision was bad news for Cowell, who last night described the prospect of the Grimes twins winning as ā€œbeyond nightmares, because a nightmare you can wake up fromā€.

Earlier this week he said: ā€œIf they win, it will be a complete and utter disaster.

ā€œI’d probably sulk for about six months, and I’d probably get on a very fast plane out of the country.ā€

The pair, from Dublin, performed Queen’s We Will Rock You last night.

Tonight they were left nervously waiting to see if the flamboyant performance had impressed viewers, when they were the last act to be told they had gone through to next week.
