'9' could have been so much more

A decidedly odd film this, in that what seems initially to be a terrific idea isn’t followed through with any depth to the characters or explanation of how they arrived at the point at which we meet them.

A decidedly odd film this, in that what seems initially to be a terrific idea isn’t followed through with any depth to the characters or explanation of how they arrived at the point at which we meet them.

In the aftermath of a terrible futuristic apocalypse a small, rag-doll machine, 9, awakens to find all that is left is a small band of fellow machines hiding out to avoid fearsome machines out to destroy them.

Brave 9 rouses his companions to come out of hiding and fight back to save civilisation.

Good idea, great looking animation … but, really, how did it all come about, where are the humans and where, even in machines, is the personality?
