‘The Cove’ documentary has thriller feel

Director: Louis Psihoyos

Cast: Ric O’Barry

Cert: PG

We love dolphins; they’re almost human. We view them as the good guys – and girls – of the animal kingdom.

They’re also not quite as warm and fuzzy and cuddly as we think, but even if we dismiss this as nasty propaganda we still slaughter thousands of them every year.

O’Barry loves dolphins; he trained the handful of them that starred as the various Flippers in the TV series.

In this documentary that has the feel of a thriller he leads a group of people to a remote and sinister Japanese cove where they find a horrible secret and unspeakable cruelty.

But, and this is the big question, is this film real or otherwise. Critics are sharply divided about its authenticity … a moving, tragic tale or a downright sham?

See it and decide for yourselves.
