'Driving Aphrodite' a sunny, funny romance

Director: Donald Petrie

Cast: Nia Vardalos, Richard Dreyfus, Rachel Dracht, Alexis Georgoulis

If it’s Tuesday it must be Athens … as your typical tourist, doing Europe in a swift week-end, would say.

Here, in a sweet, if slight, film that will certainly thrill and delight the Greek Tourist Board we meet Georgia (Vardalos, from My Big Fat Greek Wedding), a history lecturer fallen on hard times now directing a coachload of odd-ball tourists around the ancient sights of her native country.

She’s also hoping to find a little romance, so will it be with her driver (Georgoulis) or with one of the passengers? Perhaps not with the constantly and annoyingly joking Drefus.

It’s a sunny, funny, romantic film – it’s Stateside title was 'My Life in Ruins' (ancient sites pun) – that doesn’t test the grey cells but does set you up for planning where next summer’s hols will be.
