Shakira to make 'Ugly Betty' cameo

Shakira is set to have a cameo as herself in the new series of US sitcom 'Ugly Betty' after being mentioned regularly throughout the show, which follows Mode magazine worker Betty, played by America Ferrera.

Show creator Silvio Horta said: “We’re huge fans of Shakira. We had a very memorable moment in the third episode where Betty has a makeover that goes wrong and she struts down the street to ‘Hips Don’t Lie.’

“We’ve mentioned her several times over the course of the series and have always wanted to work with her. She’s an enormous Latina icon, as is Betty, and we thought it was a perfect fit.”

According to reports, Shakira will shoot her scenes in New York but they will appear in an episode set in the Bahamas.

The Colombian singer will be key to helping a Mode photo shoot get back on track while they are on location in the episode, which is entitled ‘The Bahamas Triangle’.

Shakira’s appearance is expected to air in the US in November.

Meanwhile, ‘3rd Rock From the Sun’ actress Kristen Johnston will also guest on the programme, taking over a role originally intended for departed ‘American Idol’ judge Paula Abdul.
