Madonna equals Elvis' album chart record

Madonna matched Elvis Presley’s record of 11 UK number one solo albums when her greatest hits collection 'Celebration' shot straight to the top of the charts.

The queen of pop knocked Muse’s 'The Resistance' from the top spot, The Official UK Charts Company said last night.

Only The Beatles have had more UK number one albums with a record 15.

Madonna is the most successful female solo artist of all time with the most weeks at the top of the album charts (29), the most number one singles (13) and the most chart doubles for topping the singles and album charts simultaneously (4).

Her recent 'Sticky and Sweet' tour was also the highest grossing in history by a female artist, the Charts Company said.

'Celebration' brings together 36 tracks spanning Madonna’s career so far and includes 'Revolver', a newly recorded song featuring Lil Wayne.
