Gazza fails psychological test for 'I’m A Celebrity'
Paul Gascoigne is “gutted” after failing a psychological test to appear on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’
The former football star had been desperate to appear on the ITV reality show – which sees a group of stars living in the Australian jungle for several weeks – but has been informed he is not mentally fit enough to take part.
A source told Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: “Paul was gutted when he was told he hadn’t passed the test. He’s keen to go on the show. He thinks it could actually help his recovery. But the analysis could not have happened at a worse time. He was in no state to be examined by a psychologist.”
Paul - who has struggled with an alcohol addiction, depression, drugs and has obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) – claims he was still struggling to come to terms with the death of former England football manager Bobby Robson when he took the test.
He had also just been informed his mother Carol was battling cancer.
The source added: “The woman asked him all kinds of personal stuff. Was he gay? Had he been abused or seen his dad hitting his mum? The answers were no but he found the questions very intrusive.”
His future on the programme is now unclear, as although presenters Ant and Dec are desperate for him to appear bosses do not want to negatively impact his recovery.
The 42-year-old star may still be able to have a place on the show as it is understood he may be allowed to retake the test when he has dealt with his personal issues.
Other stars rumoured to be taking part in ‘I’m A Celebrity…’ include cricketer Freddie Flintoff, former boyband singer Brian McFadden, actor Brian Blessed, siblings of Michael Jackson Tito and LaToya, glamour models Samantha Fox and Nicola T and snooker player Jimmy White.
