Tweed charged with rape

Jack Tweed was today charged with one count of rape, Scotland Yard have said.

The widower of the late reality TV star Jade Goody will appear at Redbridge Magistrates’ Court in Ilford, Essex.

Tweed, 22, from Chigwell in Essex, was arrested yesterday following a complaint from a young woman.

Another man in his 20’s has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Officers investigating the rape allegation also arrested a third man aged 25 last night, the Met Police said.

He is currently in custody at an east London police station.

The woman made the allegation after apparently meeting the men at a central London club on Thursday night.

The alleged sex attack took place at a residential address in Redbridge.

Yesterday Tweed’s spokesman, Mark Thomas, declined to comment on the arrest but confirmed that a lawyer had been hired to represent his client.

Tweed has never been far from controversy since Goody died in March this year, shortly after the couple were married.

He has spoken widely about how he has struggled to come to terms with her death and admitted turning to alcohol to ease the pain.
