Chiefs laugh off split rumours
Kaiser Chiefs have laughed off rumours they are set to split.
The group dismissed speculation that their performances at last weekend’s Reading and Leeds festivals would be their last, insisting their diary is empty because they are in need of a holiday.
Frontman Ricky Wilson said: "It's our last show for the foreseeable future, so it's a bit of an abyss. You think if it was our last one ever, we wouldn't be having a good time? I don't think bands split up when they're still good friends and having a good time with each other.
"We just haven't written anything new and we haven't booked anything. If people look at your diary and see you haven't booked anything, they think you're stopping. We've been on tour for five years and we want to spend some of our money on air travel!
“I never really saw the point of going on holiday before. but last week I was in Tel Aviv and went in the sea. I thought, Oh, I get it now, it's fun."
The group insist the main reason for their break is having “nothing to do” and not wanting to release material for the sake of it.
Ricky added to XFM radio: "We've just got nothing to do. We don't want to bring out an album before Christmas, we don't want to bring out an album after Christmas. We don't want to go into the studio, there are no more gigs. It's a bit like when we first started and had proper jobs and did a gig a month."
