Reality shows 'overdone', says Shetty
Celebrity Big Brother winner and Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty today said she thought reality shows had been “overdone”.
The actress, who appeared on Big Brother in 2007, was at the centre of a race row when Jade Goody and fellow contestants apparently made racist remarks about her.
Shetty today said she had no regrets about appearing on the show and was happy she had buried the hatchet with Goody before she died of cervical cancer earlier this year.
The current series of Big Brother has seen poor viewing figures and Shetty said: “Reality TV has worked for a really long time. But, like all things in life, if it is overdone people are going to get bored of it and until another controversy, people are not going to be intrigued enough to watch it.”
She added that launching her own range of poppadoms “brought back memories” of her time on the show.
Goody famously dubbed Shetty ’Shilpa Poppadom’ when she was in the house.
“Poppadoms do show we have a sense of humour, we intend on giving them out for free. I do hope they are not called Shilpa’s Poppadoms!”
Shetty will also launch a range of pickles, chutneys and ready meals as part of her new partnership with V8 Gourmet Group, announced today.
The Bollywood performer, who now lives in Surrey, added she made no judgements about how Goody’s husband Jack Tweed has acted since her death.
Tweed was photographed this weekend drinking in a hot tub at V Festival and is frequently seen at clubs with girls.
Shetty said: “You can’t expect someone to stop living his life after someone has gone, so each to his own. It’s his prerogative how he wants to live after she has gone. It’s up to him how he wants to conduct himself.”
