Andre single tipped for UK No. 1
Peter Andre’s comeback single 'Behind Closed Doors' looks set to be heading to number one in the UK after outselling other big releases, a retailer said today.
The song was snapped up after going on sale yesterday, Amazon.co.uk’s MP3 store said.
According to the retailer, the single has been outselling all other big chart hits including 'Never Leave You' by Tinchy Stryder – the Official Charts Company’s number one single – and 'I Gotta Feeling' by Black Eyed Peas at number two, as well as new releases including 'Ready for the Weekend' by Calvin Harris.
“We saw a high number of orders as soon as the track became available at midnight on (Saturday) and sales continued to be strong throughout the day,” said Julian Monaghan, head of music buying at Amazon.co.uk Ltd.
Andre’s most successful release to date is 'Mysterious Girl', which sold more than two million copies worldwide.
'Flava' and 'I Feel You' were also number one hits for the 36-year-old star, whose split from wife Katie Price has constantly been in the headlines.
Andre told today’s Sun newspaper he believes he has what it takes to emulate the success of former Take That singer Robbie Williams.
He said: “I believe I can do what Robbie Williams did.”
In an interview, it was put to Andre that the single might be seen as benefiting from the publicity surrounding his marriage break-up.
But the singer said: “You’re always going to be in a bit of a no-win situation because this single was written a long time ago.
“I’m talking about eight months, nine months ago – it was always going to come out this summer.”
Andre also said he would defend himself and his children and “fight tooth and nail”.
The Australian-born crooner also admitted to committing some music crimes in the past – highlighting his single 'Insania', which reached number three in the charts.
