Raunchy ‘The Ugly Truth’ has substance too

Director: Robert Luketic

Cast: Gerard Butler, Katherine Heigl, Bree Turner

On the face of it, this looks like just another battle-of-the-sexes rom-com, but once it gets into its stride it brings a lot more depth to the party, even if some of it might be deemed politically incorrect.

Heigl plays a TV producer with a difficult love life, Butler a colleague with theories about how to help her out … all with the predictable result.

It’s a very funny, fast-paced, richly entertaining and, let’s face it, raunchy film with characters who come with more substance than usual in such films.

Not one to please the more serious critic, but one that delivers sustained fun.
