Corry St killer Tony to propose to Maria
'Coronation Street' killer Tony Gordon is to propose to Maria Connor - one year after he murdered her husband Liam Connor.
The Underworld factory boss - played by Gary O'Brien - pops the question to the hairdresser on the first anniversary of Liam's death as she is grieving at his grave with her and Liam's son, who is named after his father.
Viewers will see Tony take off his wedding ring from his marriage to Carla Connor and say to Maria: "I've never felt like I do about you with anyone else - even Carla. You and the baby are everything I'll ever want for the rest of my life.
"Marry me, Maria! I want you to be my wife and I want baby Liam to be my son."
Maria replies: "Yes, yes, or course! Of course I will Tony, I love you so much."
The pretty brunette - played by Samia Smith - then kneels down to Liam's grave to ask for his blessing, saying: "You know I'll always remember you Liam, and I'll never forget what we shared together. But I know you'd want me to be happy. So sleep peacefully forever darling, because the time has come for me to let go and move on."
Tony and Maria's news will send shockwaves through Weatherfield.
Liam's mother Helen attacks her former daughter-in-law for disrespecting her son's memory, saying: "You're widowed only 12 months and here you are jumping into another man's arms! It's disgusting the way you're rubbing our noses in it and on the day our beautiful Liam was killed. May you rot in hell!"
Tony arranged for Liam to be killed in a hit-and-run car accident on the night of his stag do before his wedding to Carla.
