Cert: 18

Dour it certainly is, and already infamous for its sexual mutilation scene – however brief it is.

Dafoe and Gainsbourg play an nameless couple with a dark and twisted

secret: while having sex their young son fell from a window and died.

Now they have taken themselves off to a lonely cabin in a forest to see what can be salvaged from their shattered lives.

It is a dark and unsettling piece, but with two draining central performances to sustain it.

Opinion will forever remain divided.
