Thurman scoops nun role in new film
Uma Thurman is set to play a nun in her new movie.
The ‘Kill Bill’ star has signed on to star in new indie drama ‘Girl Soldier’, in which she will take on the role of Sister Caroline who helped rescue 140 schoolgirls abducted in Uganda.
Uma said: "This is a film that had to get made. It's beyond me that in this day and age the exploitation of child soldiers goes virtually unnoticed and unchecked by Western media."
The film – which will be produced by Diane Nabatoff, Allan Mindel and Will Raee, who will also direct – is based on Kathy Cook’s novel ‘Stolen Angels’, which follows the 1996 raid at a boarding school, where a band of armed rebels abducted young girls to turn them into soldiers and sex slaves.
One of the school’s teachers, Sister Caroline, tracked the rebels down and demanded their release.
A hundred and ten were returned to her and she then began a crusade to rescue the rest of her girls as well as other children in rebel captivity.
