This character-driven film brings us a series of cameos from the life of Lee.

Lee (Penn) is the devoted wife of an older man (Arkin). She is a terrific mother and a friend to everyone, whose life is thrown into chaos when her husband insists they move from New York to a retirement community, where she finds romance with a younger man … and wonders where she’s heading.

It’s a film in which a strong cast grabs every opportunity to round out their characters with honesty and depth and one in which Penn performs with distinction, a performance of Oscar-garnering proportions, one might even suggest.
