Glastonbury acts enjoy boost in music sales

Acts taking part in the first major day of the Glastonbury festival have enjoyed an overnight boost in sales, it emerged today.

The big winners yesterday evening in Amazon.co.uk’s music and MP3 stores were The Ting Tings, who enjoyed a day-on-day sales increase of 282%, a spokesman for the company said.

The Manchester duo – who first played Glastonbury as relative unknowns in 2007 - performed on the Other Stage.

On the Pyramid, old hands The Specials produced a hit laden show – and saw their sales boosted 217%, Amazon said.

The five artists who saw the biggest uplift in sales from the first day of the festival were: 1. The Ting Tings – sales increase of 282%; 2. The Specials – 217%; 3. White Lies – 54%; 4. Neil Young – 51%; 5. Fleet Foxes – 38%.

Julian Monaghan, head of music buying at Amazon.co.uk, said: “Glastonbury isn’t just a festival, it’s an annual media event.

“With vast amounts of TV, radio and press coverage, a big performance can generate huge rises in sales for the artists concerned – even for a band like The Specials, who first formed 22 years ago.”
