Excellent performances in thought-provoking 'My Sister’s Keeper'

Director: Nick Cassavetes

Cast: Cameron Diaz, Jason Patrick, Sofia Vassilieva, Alec Baldwin, Abigale Breslin

A powerful and heart-warming morality tale posing the question: What would you do and how far would you go to keep a sick family member alive?

Diaz, in one of her most sterling performances as Sara, the mother of a young daughter suffering from Leukaemia, leads an excellent cast in this thoughtful film.

Young Kate (Vassilieva) has Leukaemia and Sara and her husband (Patrick) conceive a child, Anna (Breslin), with the intention of using her to help her sister.

But is Anna more than a mere living medicine chest or a person in her own right?

The acting, particularly that of Breslin, is outstanding in an off-centre film that raises many interesting ethical questions.
