'Britain's Got Talent' organisers hope Boyle will perform

Organisers of the 'Britain’s Got Talent' live show were today hoping Susan Boyle would be fit enough to return to the tour.

The 48-year Scottish singer withdrew from the third date of the tour in Manchester yesterday after she was advised to rest.

She is due to perform tonight in her home country at Glasgow SECC but doubts remain about her state of health following her meteoric rise to stardom.

Concert-goers at the Manchester Evening News Arena were greeted at the venue with notices announcing Boyle would not perform at either of the scheduled matinee or evening shows.

A spokesperson for Boyle said: “Following three sensational performances, Susan Boyle has been advised to rest.

“She sends her sincere apologies to her fans for not appearing in Manchester.”

The spokesperson stressed Boyle had not been ruled out of the rest of the 21-date tour across the UK and it was hoped she would return to the stage in Glasgow.

West Lothian church volunteer Boyle went from a quiet life to global fame after the video of her singing 'I Dreamed A Dream' from the musical 'Les Miserables' in her 'Britain’s Got Talent' audition was watched hundreds of millions of times on the internet.

The troubled singer was admitted to the Priory clinic after coming second to dance troupe Diversity in the TV contest broadcast on ITV1 but left five days later.

Boyle dispelled doubts as to whether she would perform in the live tour when she appeared at the opening show in Birmingham on Friday night.

She wowed the crowd with renditions of 'I Dreamed A Dream' and 'Memory' from the musical 'Cats'.

The next day in Sheffield though she appeared to stumble over her words as she sang Memory and earlier had received a mixed reaction from the audience with several people booing her when her name was announced.

Wearing a long, sequinned silver dress, Boyle blew a kiss and waved at her fans at the Sheffield Arena as both songs received a standing ovation in the matinee performance before she retook to the stage later in the evening.

The rest of this year’s finalists performed in the matinee show at the MEN Arena to rapturous applause from the 5,700-strong crowd.

However, boos filled the arena after ITV2’s 'Britain’s Got More Talent' presenter Stephen Mulhern told the audience that Boyle would not be performing before a video clip of her “journey” was played on stage.

The crowd voiced their dismay when show host Mulhern said he hoped Boyle would recover in time for the rest of the tour.

Fans had the option for a refund if they decided they did not want to watch the show but it is believed only five people asked for their money back ahead of the afternoon performance.

One fan, Liz Speak, 25, of Chorlton, Manchester, said she was unaware that refunds were available but would have watched the show regardless.

She said: “When we arrived there were A4 pieces of papers on all the doors stating that Susan Boyle would not be playing at either show today. That was it, there was no explanation.

“I was disappointed obviously that Susan was not singing but we didn’t come to just watch her. All the rest of the finalists performed and it was a really good show.

“We didn’t see any notices offering refunds but I wouldn’t have taken one anyway.”
