'Last House on the Left' a superior film of the genre

Director: Dennis Iliadis

Cast: Tony Goldwyn, Monica Potter, Sara Paxton, Garrett Dillahunt

Cert: 16

Iliadis has taken the Wes Craven 1972 classic horror story and added a great deal more to what was an unpleasant, albeit successful, tale of revenge.

A gang of thugs kidnap and rape a couple of young girls and hide out in the lake shore holiday home of one of their parents. When the parents discover what has happened they set out on a campaign of bloody revenge.

It all leads to a roller-coaster of a film that manages to pack in laughs as well as frights and plenty of gripping twists, brought to us with a great, menacing atmosphere and a pace that doesn’t let up.

An all-round superior film from an often overworked and not very original genre.

Star Rating: 4/5
