Bardem for 'epic' western

Javier Bardem is to star in a "big epic" Western.

'The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3' director Tony Scott is working on a new biopic of Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa and says the 'No Country For Old Men' star is his first choice to take on the lead role - and the actor is happy to do it.

Tony said: "I've been talking to Javier about it now for about eight years.

He told me: 'I am Pancho Villa.' "

The former Governor of Chihuahua has previously been depicted in Eugenio Martin's 'Pancho Villa' in 1972, where he was played by Telly Savalas, and in TV movie, 'And Starring Pancho Villa as Himself', which featured Antonio Banderas.

It is unclear when Tony plans to start on the film but he will be working on 'Alien' and 'The Warriors' before he can commence work on the project.
