Former winner: BB should be axed

Original ‘Big Brother’ winner Craig Phillips thinks the show should be axed.

The Liverpudlian builder – who won the first series of the fly-on-the-wall TV show in 2000 – thinks the series has become clichéd and understands why viewers are turning off from the show.

He said: “I would like to see it end now. I know they’ve got a licence for an 11th series, but whether it should come back next year is another matter.”

Craig – who has enjoyed a successful TV career since his win – says producers are struggling to come up with new ideas to make the present series interesting.

He told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “It’s difficult for the producers to do anything that hasn’t been seen before. You can’t change what the format of the show is – all bosses can do is to introduce tasks and take contestants in and out.

“But those are all the usual tactics. It needs another flavour to it to make it work, a surprise element to make it work.”

The latest series of the show has struggled to draw in audiences of more than two million – 1.5 million less than last year.
