Little new on offer in ‘Terminator: Salvation’

Director: McG

Cast: Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Helena Bonham Carter, Bryce Dallas Howard

Cert: 12

The Terminator series of futuristic sci-fi blockbusters ran out of steam a long time ago, largely because for all the high-drama, wild action, noise and explosions and special F/X they never made any real sense.

So now we have Bale as John Connors leading a group of survivors following a nuclear disaster against the evil machines of Skynet.

In this bloody endeavour he is joined by the mysterious Marcus Wright (Worthington) – is he from the past or the future? - with whom he attempts to infiltrate the Skynet organisation in order to save mankind for, presumable, several more Terminations.

The major problem is that Connors is not the most interesting of characters, played here as some kind of religious leader, and the only thing, apart from Wright’s more interesting everyman, to satisfy fans is the noise and the explosions.

Time to terminate the Terminator, or find a more innovative plotline.
