Rockers Green Day sent thousands of screaming fans flocking to New York's Central Park yesterday, when they played a free concert live on US TV.

Followers spilled onto the streets after the band's performance at Rumsey Playfield, which kicked off the 'Good Morning America' Summer Concert Series on the ABC network.

The rockers treated fans to old hits and songs from their latest album '21st Century Breakdown' for the show, celebrating the record's success at the top of the US album charts this week.

Music fans will have a string of free live shows to look forward to as part of the TV series. Lionel Richie, John Legend, The Jonas Brothers, Jamie Foxx, Brad Paisley and Queen Latifah have already been lined-up to perform in the weeks ahead.
