Triumphant return for 'Star Trek' franchise
Director: JJ Abrams
Cast: Chris Pine, Eric Bana, Zachary Quinto
Cert: 12
What a spectacular comeback for a series many thought of late to be fading.
Going boldly has not been achieved with quite such verve and energy and sheer brilliance ... welcome back, then, Kirk, Spock, Bones and the crew of the USS Enterprise.
On TV and the big screen there have been so many variations of the classic deep space adventures that one's head spun like the stars, and not all the big-budget films were a success, so much so that many feared for the future of the films.
But Abrams has arrived with one of the, if not the, best ever, taking the story back to its very roots to when the future Captain James T Kirk, the logical Spock and the others who would make up the crew of the enterprising spaceship met and formed their enduring friendships.
And what helps make the film such brilliant entertainment is the chemistry between the young cast, particularly Pine as Kirk and Quinto as Spock. And the fact that everyone looks as if they are thoroughly enjoying themselves, as will the millions of Trekkers out there.
Abrams has fashioned a film of quality and heart and humanity, a film of action and humour.
Star Trek is back ... and how!!
