LaBeouf's shattered hand reminds him of his mistake

Actor Shia LaBeouf is constantly reminded of the Hollywood car crash last summer that left him with a mangled hand - because his injury is like a "tattoo that says 'mistake'".

The 'Transformers' star flipped his Ford truck over during an early morning car accident in July 2008, and the damage to his left hand was so severe it will never fully heal.

He admits even the smallest actions are a painful struggle, but LaBeouf has learned to accept he will have to live with the consequences of that fateful night for the rest of his life.

He told Playboy magazine: "I can't zipper my zipper or button my shirt without extreme pain.

"But I chalk it up as my own s**t. These things had to happen. This accident is what I needed in my life. I'm not in control. For the first time, I can admit that and know that. I'm a fallible individual, and the hand is like a tattoo that says MISTAKE.

"It's something I'll have to live with for the rest of my life."

Police ruled LaBeouf was not at fault for the wreck.
