'Encounters' is visually stunning but doesn't have staying power
Director: Werner Herzog
Cast: Werner Herzog, Ryan Andrew Evans
A documentary set in the remote McMurdo Station base in the Antarctic that highlights the collection of characters who choose to live and work in the white wilderness … and each one of Herzog’s encounters manages to bring us something you don’t find in the neighbourhood streets.
You don’t have to be slightly mad to work in the Antarctic but it sure helps, even if you are a highly-trained scientist doing detailed research.
Visually it’s a stunning film but ultimately it doesn’t have the staying power to be a cinema release. It would, almost certainly will, make for a better TV viewing.
