Observe brilliant Rogan in zany comedy

Director: Jody Hill

Cast: Seth Rogan, Ray Liotta, Michael Pena, Anna Faris

Cert: 16

Rogan turns in a great performance as the central character – a bipolar mall security guard with a wide range of personal problems and character defects – in what is much more than the zany comedy you might be expecting.

The film, while funny, is also surprisingly dark and packed with oddball characters doing oddball things in that curious and other worldly venue that is your average American mall.

Rogan plays Ronnie, who lives at home and, being a bully and a fruitcake to boot, should never be employed where humans are plentiful. He is tasked with bringing a flasher to justice but when he fails a cop (Liotta) is brought in to show ‘em how the professionals do it … leading to some friction between the two men.

It has a lot of pace – and a great supporting performance from Faris as Ronnie’s love interest – and manages to be the sort of comedy that will leave audiences strictly divided over its merits.

Star Rating: 4/5
